Chiral Techniques
Medium Pressure Liquid Chromatography (MPLC) / Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC)
To assist users who want fast access to separations in a synthesis lab, Daicel has developed a range of Medium Pressure Liquid Chromatography (MPLC) and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) chiral products that are complementary, cost-effective chiral separation options. Daicel Chiral Technologies is an innovator in designing and manufacturing chiral selectors for these popular techniques.
MPLC advantages
MPLC offers a number of benefits that make it a popular choice for semi-preparative separation and refinement work:
- Flexibility to perform chiral separations using a range of MPLC systems.
- Lower costs and ease of use compared to normal chiral prep HPLC.
- Versatility; a wide range of solvents are suitable as mobile phases as only Daicel immobilized selectors are available as MPLC columns.
Daicel Chiral Technologies offers a range of 30mm i.d. 20 micron immobilized chiral selectors in MPLC columns. For screening, we offer HPLC columns matched to the MPLC phases.
TLC advantages
Designed for fast screening of reaction mixtures, TLC is performed on a substrate coated with an adsorbent material, in this case a polysaccharide coated silica gel. TLC offers important advantages as compared to techniques such as High Performance Liquid Chromatography:
- Simplicity; TLC requires low-complexity equipment compared to instrument systems.
- Higher speed of analysis with rapid elution of components.
- Greater flexibility; different plates can be screened in parallel to enable a broad range of enantiomeric separation interactions.
Daicel Chiral Technologies offers innovative 3D TLC chiral plates to allow ease of screening.
