Chiral Techniques
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) / Ultra-High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC)
HPLC is the most commonly employed technique for enantiomer separation/isolation. It offers high resolution, repeatability, efficiency, and the versatility to perform separations on a wide variety of compounds. UHPLC is a specialized subset of HPLC using smaller diameter particles, offering more significant speed and efficiency. Daicel Chiral Technologies offers a range of chiral columns for both techniques.
HPLC technique
HPLC separations are performed using a range of equipment depending on the scale of the separation desired. Daicel Chiral Technologies offers solutions for performing enantiomer resolution of chiral compounds from a few milligrams to multiple kilograms. While HPLC requires relatively high volumes of solvents, these can be recovered and recycled to minimize the environmental impact and lower separation costs.
UHPLC technique
With the introduction of columns packed with small diameter particles (less than 2 µm), HPLC instruments needed to be improved to deliver the benefits offered by these columns. A number of UHPLC systems are now available that utilize high-pressure pumps and minimize the dispersion and extra column volume in combination with high-speed data acquisition units. Daicel Chiral Technologies led the industry in providing sub-2 µm immobilized chiral columns to achieve the increased resolution and speed offered by UHPLC.
